IconXP allows you to edit icons and customize Windows. It supports the new icon format introduced in Windows XP. Using this program you can create and edit icons in either standard or custom sizes, with color depths up to 32-bit True Color with 8-bit alpha channel.

Paint tools include: color replacer, color selector, spray can, pencil, brush, flood fill, text tool, line tool, rectangle, curve, ellipse, 3d frame. Modifiers can also be used to apply color gradients and chess fills. For Windows XP icons, you get to add cool drop shadow and smooth effects. IconXP allows you to import, export and change color palettes for icon images.

IconXP allows you to change standard Windows icons, folder icons and customize desktop attributes. You can easily replace, colorize and save the icons Windows uses to display various objects - My Computer, Recycle Bin, Internet, Start menu items, drives, system folders and your own folders. You can also hide or change shortcut overlays. There are also commands that change the desktop icons size and color resolution, rebuild the icon cache.


· Create and edit icons in either standard or custom sizes, in color depths up to 16 million colors
· Create and edit icons for Windows XP in 32-bit color depth with 8-bit alpha channel
· Open and edit BMP, JPEG and PNG images in sizes up to 127x127
· Import images in various graphic formats (ICO, BMP, JPEG, ANI, CUR, GIF, PNG, WMF, XPM, XBM, WBMP and Adobe Photoshop PSD) directly into icons
· Export icon images to ICO, BMP, JPEG, CUR, PNG, XPM, XBM, WBMP and Adobe Photoshop PSD files
· Capture screen images
· Paint images with gradient and chess fill
· Modify images with drop shadow, smooth, rotate, grayscale, colorize, roll and mirror effects
· Import and export icon color palettes
· Sort images inside icons
· Modify the default icons Windows uses to display My Computer, Recycle Bin, Internet, Start menu items, drives, shortcut and sharing overlays, system folders and other objects
· Customize desktop attributes
· Customize folder icons

It looks interesting, but I don't really see it being any better than the applications already out there for the same type of thing. There's the Photoshop plugin (IconBuilder I believe) that allows you to create icons in Photoshop and export. Plus you've got Microangelo with it's numerous tools. I just don't think this one has enough merit to get $20 per copy.

And a link to the actual product page for IconXP would've been useful, rather than linking to for the download.

yeah, Axialis IconWorkshop can do all this too, and even has a plugin for Photoshop to send images directly to the program to be made into icons!

It sounds really cool and all, i think it needs more features to be worth 20 bucks though.

I was in love as soon as I read that there was a new program to edit icons. I'd like something a bit more easy to work with as per how icons go, but I'm honestly not going to pay $20 over the 'net for it until it has a lot more features.

What's the free program? Specifically, I want something that would let me change the fuckdamn Search and Run XP Start Menu icons.:D

Thanks. Iconphile is awesome.:floating: I do use it already, but unfortunately it has no effect on the Run and Search icons in XP.:(
